We are lucky to live in an age in which Ford's lineup offers many electrified options. From hybrid options like the Escape or Maverick to fully electric Ford EVs like the F-150 Lightning and the Mustang Mach-E, there’s something for everyone.

The 2024 Mustang Mach-E is special for several reasons. Not only is it Ford’s only all-electric performance-based vehicle, but it has also received an engineering makeover for the new model year. The Mach-E is now faster and more powerful than ever while offering a slew of redesigned features that speak to what American drivers want. For the updated Mustang Mach-E SUV, Ford listened to the opinions of real Americans and gave them what they wanted, and more.

Here are some of our favorite highlights of the 2024 Mach-E. While there’s a lot to love about the 2024 lineup, here are just a few of the things we feel make the second generation an exciting option for EV drivers.

Engineering and Power Upgrades

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in four trims: Select, Premium, GT, and, new for 2024, the Mustang Mach-E Rally. Since performance and the Ford Mustang go hand in hand, the all-electric SUV that bears its name has received some significant upgrades in the power and handling areas.

All 2024 Mustang Mach-E trims are equipped with Ford’s new rear eMotor. Making its debut this year, the eMotor is lighter than previous motor units and helps improve overall torque across the lineup.

Engineering updates have also led to a significant increase in the all-electric Mach-E’s overall range. The Select model with standard range battery and rear-wheel drive now covers up to 250 miles on a full charge, while the rear-wheel drive Premium model, equipped with an extended range battery, can manage 320 miles of range before its next full charge. This is an increase of around 20 miles in both cases. Even the performance-oriented GT model received an increase of 10 miles, now sporting a range of 280 miles. The Mustang Mach-E Rally is brand new for 2024 and takes its place on the streets with a range of 265 miles.

Those who select the Mustang Mach-E GT and Rally trims have access to the Mustang Mach-E GTTM Performance Upgrade. Standard on the Rally trim and available on the GT, the Performance Upgrade includes specific programming and engineering that provide greater control over powertrain thermal modeling and control algorithms. The Performance Upgrade also unlocks an additional 100 lb-ft of torque for Mach-E drivers.

What does all this mean in the real world? According to Ford, the upgraded GT model can make the trip from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.3 seconds, with a quarter mile time of 11.8 seconds at a blistering 114 mph. These figures stand for themselves when compared with other performance vehicles like the Tesla Model Y Performance and the electric Porsche Macan 4. Also on board the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT are Ford’s MagneRide Damping System and Brembo front brake calipers, giving this trim all of the performance goodies that can be found on a certain pony car with a similar name.

2024 Mustang Mach-E Models

One of our favorite things about the 2024 Mustang Mach-E is the number of choices drivers have when it comes to selecting the perfect model. The Select trim is offered with a standard-range battery, a choice of rear or all-wheel drive, and an extended-range battery with all-wheel drive. The Premium trim adds an extended-range battery with rear-wheel drive option, while the GT and Rally trims are offered exclusively as extended-range all-wheel drive models.

Speaking of the Rally trim, lots of customers are curious about what this is about. Taking its inspiration from dirt road rally racing, this trim comes with all the right equipment to help it take electricity into the wild. Perched on gloss white 19-inch rally-style wheels clad in Michelin CrossClimate tires, the Rally trim is ready to kick up the dirt. The front and rear motors are shielded from the elements, and Ford has taken extra care to protect the exterior of the Mustang Mach-E. There’s even a built-in recovery point.

The Mustang Mach-E Rally is also the first vehicle in Ford’s stable to receive RallySport Drive Mode. It is similar to Track mode in the standard Mustang, except given the Mach-E Rally’s propensity for dirt, it is tuned to maximize speed and performance on loose surfaces. Specifically, it provides a more linear throttle response for better control, more aggressive damping for better handling in slippery corners, and reduced traction and stability control settings to allow bigger slides and drifts.

Those who like to stand out from the crowd might want to inquire about the 20204 Mustang Mach-E GT Bronze Appearance Package, which adds Sinister Bronze accents like 20-inch wheels, badges, and grille.

Most Wanted Technology

Our favorite thing about the updated Mustang Mach-E is the customer feedback that went into the updates. Ford not only solicited the feedback of real Mach-E drivers, but then incorporated that feedback into the changes they’ve made. That includes not only a longer range, but easier charging as well. Models with extended-range batteries have been enabled to charge 20 percent faster with DC fast charging. Ultimately, that results in charging from ten to 80 percent in 36.2 minutes. According to Ford, that is 8.8 minutes faster than the previous Mustang Mach-E. Models with standard range batteries also charge more rapidly now, with a 5.7-minute faster charging time between ten and 80 percent.

As part of the BlueOval Charge Network, Mustang Mach-E drivers will now have access to Tesla Supercharger locations. Drivers can also utilize app features like EV Routing on Google Maps and Apple Maps in conjunction with the Public Charging app for a worry-free road trip.

Inside, the existing 15.5-inch tablet-style touchscreen has been made even more handy. USB and Bluetooth sources have been grouped together to make it easier to switch between them, and the Settings screen has been updated based on driver feedback to be easier to use and read. These may seem like small improvements, but they are huge steps towards making electric vehicles more accessible and easy to use for everyone.

All-Electric and All-Performance: The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Even without the major updates, it would be easy to get excited about the updated Mustang Mach-E. After all, who doesn’t get a little excited at the idea of a maximum 480 hp combined with up to 700 lb-ft of torque? Frankly, we’re still pretty impressed with the 4.7 cu.ft. front trunk and excellent use of space to compliment the 59.7 cu.ft. maximum interior cargo room.

For many drivers, it’s the little things that count, like knowing your opinions and ideas matter. Ford has demonstrated with the Mustang Mach-E that wishes can come true and that how we drive our cars is just as important to automotive manufacturers as who we buy them from. Whether you’ve never considered the Mustang Mach-E before or you’re excited to try out these upgrades for yourself, the 2024 model demonstrates that an electric SUV is anything but boring.
