Ford EVs

If you like to stay ahead of trends rather than play catch-up, then now is a great time to consider an electric vehicle (EV). Major manufacturers are racing to offer more, stronger, faster, and overall better EVs than the competition, and Ford has proven a leader in the EV space. We have dozens of Ford EVs to explore, and we would love to introduce you to the electrified side of this great American brand. Ford has always made vehicles that last and that have gained loyal drivers. Their popular models span nearly the full body style spectrum, from muscle cars to pickups to SUVs and off-road vehicles. Now, you can find many of these popular models as EVs.

In recent years, Ford has dedicated its resources, including its design geniuses and engineers, to creating electrified versions of many of its top models. So that means that if there's a traditional gas engine model you already love, you might not have to switch to a new vehicle type to enjoy an electrified powertrain. At Steve Marsh Ford, we're working hard to bring in Ford EVs as rapidly as people are gaining interest in them. Our friendly and knowledgeable team is well-informed on each model and can help you find your ideal Ford EV. Visit us to explore a huge selection of electrified Fords at competitive prices and to work with a caring, professional, and insightful team.

Battery Electric Vehicles-What Are They?

While traditional gas engine models rely on an internal combustion engine and fuel to run, BEVs rely on an electric motor (sometimes two) and a battery pack. So, you do not need any gasoline at all to operate a BEV. Rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries are the most common types of batteries used in BEVs, and they use energy stores in their packs to power the motor, which moves the wheels.

Thanks to their lack of an internal combustion engine and fuel, BEVs do not emit any pollution and can be a terrific environmentally friendly option. They are also much quieter than traditional gas-engine vehicles, so they can even reduce noise pollution. So, if you don't use fuel to power up, what do you do when your BEV needs power? You plug it in.

You can actually plug your BEV into a standard 120-volt outlet-a common outlet type you can find at home. This is known as Level 1 charging and can take roughly 40 to 60  hours to gain a full charge. Of course, few people go for a full charge at once-instead, they plug in overnight to get around 40 to 50 miles of range, which is enough for most daily commutes.

Alternatively, you can utilize what BEV manufacturers refer to as Level 2 charging. This relies on a 240-volt outlet and can give you a full charge, typically three to seven times faster than a Level 1 charger. Level 2 chargers are more commonly found out in public, whereas most BEVs come with the equipment for Level 1 charging at home. However, you can install a Level 2 charger at home with the assistance of a licensed electrician. A Level 3 or DC Fast Charging is also available and can be found in a growing number of public places.

Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles-What Are They?

Hybrids and plug-in hybrids (HEVs and PHEVs) rely on a combination of an internal combustion engine and battery packs plus a motor. Most of these vehicles have internal systems that can smartly assess when to rely more heavily on one or the other-gas or battery-to move the vehicle, in order to maximize fuel efficiency.

Now, while BEVs can only power up via plug-in charging, HEVs and PHEVs can gain their battery power through regenerative braking. Put simply, this is a process by which, when you hit the brakes, rather than losing that energy, your vehicle captures it and converts it into battery power. So while stop-and-go traffic conditions can be simple fuel sucks for traditional gas engine vehicles, they can ultimately boost the fuel efficiency of your PHEV or HEV by sending power to the battery pack.

PHEVs are a bit different from HEVs in that, as their name promises, you can plug them in for a charge-just like a BEV. In fact, you'll use the same types of chargers. So you'll find yourself next to BEV drivers when plugging in at public charging stations. Many PHEVs can also drive for a limited range in all-electric mode, meaning they aren't relying on the internal combustion engine at all.

A Look at the Ford F-150 Lightning

You're likely already very familiar with the Ford F-150, Ford's iconic and top-selling full-size, light-duty pickup truck. It combines exceptional versatility and customization options with impressive towing and payload figures, making it a highly sought-after truck for contractors, DIYers, and adventurers alike. Here's the great news: it comes in an electrified version, the Ford F-150 Lightning.

If you need the powers of the F-150 but also tackle significant commutes daily and want better fuel economy, you'll love the F-150 Lightning. With great electric range, it can go further than many traditional gas engine pickups can on a full tank of gas. So it can get you to your job sites and campsites and home again without worrying about recharging.

The F-150 Lighting is still plenty powerful, too. It has impressive towing capacities, which help you with common job site equipment, boats, and campers. Like the traditional gas-engine F-150, it is available in a variety of trims, each appealing to a different personality. Plus, it's loaded with great infotainment and technology features like massive screens and intuitive driver-assist features.

The F-150 will always be a classic. Ford has simply modernized this popular vehicle by offering it as a BEV. Leave the fuel behind but keep the capabilities; check out the F-150 Lightning today.

The Amazing Ford Mustang Mach-E

Mustangs and V8s are kind of synonymous. So when Ford announced it would be offering an electrified version of a Mustang-inspired BEV compact SUV, even we will admit we wondered if it could be done. Ford exceeded our expectations with this exhilarating small SUV with huge performance stats. It combines the power of the classic muscle car with the sleek profile of a cosmopolitan-ready compact SUV and, of course, an electrified powertrain. If you need the utility of an SUV but want the thrill of a Mustang, you can have it all in the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

With varying battery size options to choose from, the Mustang Mach-E boasts some serious horsepower figures. You can also choose between rear-wheel drive models for that more classic track-ready performance or all-wheel drive models for a little more versatility. It's available in some spirited trims with performance-inspired style details and some striking appearance packages.

The Mustang Mach-E will also impress technologically-savvy drivers with beautiful, crisp, and fast-acting screens and other infotainment features. If you crave elegance and power in a BEV, check out the Mustang Mach-E. Plus, it also enjoys an impressive electric range, so you shouldn't have to pull over to plug in too frequently, either.

Check Out Ford's HEVs and PHEVs

If the combination of an internal combustion engine and a battery pack calls your name, Ford also makes several HEVs and PHEVs. Let's start with a vehicle we already covered-the F-150. In addition to a BEV model, there's also an F-150 HEV. So when you're stuck in congested city streets, you can recapture energy through regenerative braking and boost the fuel efficiency of your pickup. If your jobs take you to a range of environments, from the suburbs to remote country roads, having an HEV powertrain can help your vehicle adapt to the flow of traffic and your driving behaviors to maximize fuel efficiency.

Are you looking for an electrified compact truck? Check out the hybrid Maverick. It's a small truck with a big personality. Available in luxury trims that make your commute more enjoyable and boasting some good towing figures for its size, the Maverick is great for DIYers and commuters.

Ford's popular compact SUV, the Escape, is also available as either a PHEV or an HEV. The Escape offers car-like handling with available all-wheel drive, so you can enjoy some of the utility of an SUV without having to manage large dimensions. It even enjoys some modest towing powers, making it the perfect camping and adventure vehicle. Since it's available as a PHEV or HEV, you have the option to plug in or go the traditional HEV route.

FAQs About EV Ownership

We recognize that the concept of driving an EV is still new to many drivers. We're here to ease your concerns about making the switch and help you purchase an EV with confidence and excitement! Below are some common questions shoppers ask us about EV ownership.

Does your dealership service EVs?

Absolutely! We have a team of EV experts who have extensive experience caring for Ford's many EVs. They understand the unique needs of EVs, can quickly diagnose issues, can identify the perfect part, and know the right maintenance schedules for all Ford EVs.

Does driving an EV really save me money?

It certainly does. On average, a traditional gas engine model costs 15 cents per mile to run while an EV costs five cents per mile to run. If you take excellent care of your EV and have it for many years, those savings will really add up.

Are public charging stations hard to find?

Not at all. Across America, the number of public EV charging stations has more than doubled in the last few years. City planners and private businesses are recognizing the demand for increasing the supply of these stations and the lucrativeness of installing more of them. Plus, there are many smartphone apps dedicated to helping you locate EV charging stations near you.

Are EVs easy to maintain?

They are usually easier to maintain than traditional gas engine models because EVs tend to have fewer parts in their powertrains and require less frequent maintenance. They also don't require some routine services that are essential for gas-powered cars, such as oil changes.

How far can EVs go without a charge?

The answer to this question depends on the model, but many manufacturers, including Ford, are constantly improving their EV vehicles to make them more efficient. Many EVs today have all-electric ranges exceeding 300 miles.
