Are you considering purchasing the best-selling truck in America, the F-150? Smart choice. Many, many drivers before you have recognized what a phenomenal pickup truck it is. It’s no secret that it’s been the best-selling full-size pickup for decades. From hardworking folks who tackle hefty jobs to thrillseekers needing an off-road truck to families after a practical daily driver, the F-150 has captured the hearts (and driveways) of many. If you’re looking for a Ford F-150 for sale near Jackson, visit us at Steve Marsh Ford. We’d love to assist you in selecting your ideal truck. We have tons of models arriving daily and useful insights into each one.

One of the most important decisions you'll have to make is which engine is right for your needs. For 2025, the F-150 is available with six dynamic powertrains (and that's not including the all-electric F-150 Lightning). There’s no single one we could call the "best" because it’s all about how you plan on using your pickup. Below, we’ll go over the perks of each powertrain to help inform your decision. By the end of this blog, you should know just which engine matches your goals.

The EcoBoost V6 Engines

Okay, buckle up because Ford offers several EcoBoost V6 options for the 2025 F-150. These are modern turbocharged engines that produce tons of power for their size. To start things off, there’s the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 and the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. If you want to stay in the gas engine realm and want the best fuel economy possible within it, you’ll be looking at these two engines.

The standard 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is going to get you the best fuel economy in the traditional gas engine space. Now, the tradeoff is that it gets you the lowest towing figures in the powertrain lineup at 8,400 lbs. We see this being a popular option among Jackson drivers who just need a solid daily driver. Parents or DIYers who don’t want to spend much at the pump and don’t need to tow much more than a small camper or light equipment from time to time flock to this engine. It has the lowest price tag at the dealership and keeps fuel costs low, too.

Now, if you need more power than the 2.7L EcoBoost has to offer but want to remain in the all-gas engine category, the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 will impress. It bumps the towing capacities of your pickup to 13,500 lbs without taking too much of a fuel efficiency dip. Horsepower and torque increase for this engine, too. We like to recommend this engine to contractors and industrious drivers who need to tow heavier equipment but don't want to upgrade to a Super Duty model.

The final EcoBoost is only available on the F-150 Raptor. But you’ll see it when you’re shopping, so to avoid confusion, we’ll tell you what it’s about. The 3.5L High Output EcoBoost V6 boosts the performance of the standard 3.5L EcoBoost, providing 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Increasing the speed and acceleration of your pickup, this engine has the oomph drivers need to command off-road environments. But, again, it’s only available for the F-150 Raptor trim, so if you want it, you’ll be committed to that rugged model (which is a perk for many drivers).

The PowerBoost Hybrid

Now, let’s look at the hybrid option, the 3.5L PowerBoost Full-Hybrid V6. If you face frequent long drives along I-40 and need the utility of a pickup, we recommend checking out this option. It’s really an epic engine because it has excellent fuel economy without sacrificing power. In fact, it has some of the best horsepower and torque numbers of the F-150 lineup, with 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. It can tow 11,200 lbs and boasts a payload of 1,750 lbs. So it can handle long commutes, and help you haul the items you need for your work or adventures, like trailers and boats.

Here’s another cool perk of this engine: it gets you the 2.4 kW Pro Power Onboard system. This is a built-in generator that lets you plug in appliances and electric tools on the go. So you can plug in mini-fridges and speakers for more camp fun or power drills and saws for more efficient work days. Plus, you get the option with the hybrid powertrain to bump up to the 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard system to power even hungrier appliances. Yes, it will come with a price bump from the other engine options. However, it more than justifies it with what it’ll save you at the pump and how it can supercharge your tasks and adventures with those towing figures and that onboard generator.

The Classic V8 Engines

Most drivers know that when true power is what you’re after, you’ll be looking at a V8. If you want a vehicle that can accelerate with ease, even when towing a trailer, a V8 is the way to go. If you like the undeniable roar of a powerful engine under your hood, the V8 is the obvious choice. There are two V8 options for the 2025 F-150: the 5.0L Coyote and the supercharged 5.2L Predator. The first is available on most trims and gets you 400 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. The second is only found in the top-of-the-line Raptor R package and bumps you up to 720 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque. If you want to reach top speeds with ease and have the money for Ford's super truck, the Predator V8 will not disappoint. Of course, the V8 engines are not going to present particularly high MPGs. But that’s not what people turn to a V8 for.
